Scott Burke, a resident of New Berlin, Wisconsin, was arrested last week on suspicion of jewelry theft. His unlikely accomplice in getting caught was none other than his six-year-old daughter.
Burke visited a Walmart store, where he broke into a jewelry display case, took valuable earrings, and slipped them into his pocket. A security guard noticed the incident on the surveillance camera and approached Burke for questioning. As the guard approached, he overheard the suspect's six-year-old daughter pleading with her father to stop stealing jewelry.
The guard called the police, who then approached Burke and asked for his identification. A check of his ID number revealed that Burke had no driver's license, prompting the officers to ask how he had arrived at the store. "We walked," claimed Burke. "But Daddy," the little girl quickly interjected, "we got here in your car!" She then pointed out the family vehicle to the officers.
Scott Burke was arrested with the earrings and other stolen items in his possession. It seems he won't be taking his daughter along the next time he considers committing a crime.
