Jonathan Holland was only three years old when his father took him on a supposed family roots trip to Mexico. 15 long years passed, and he never returned to the arms of his mother, Hope Holland. Last Thursday marked the end of this painful wait as the two were finally reunited in an emotional family meeting thanks to a Facebook photo posted by Jonathan that, miraculously, found its way to his mother's eyes.
Throughout the years since Jonathan disappeared, Hope made numerous attempts to locate him, employing private investigators and trying every method she could think of, but to no avail. Jonathan's trail seemed to have vanished. As for Jonathan, upon reaching adulthood, he somehow learned about the sad story behind his move to Mexico. Determined to reconnect with his family, he posted a family photo on Facebook in hopes of finding his mother and his older brother, Jacob.
By chance, this heartfelt image crossed Hope's path while browsing Facebook one day, prompting her to immediately reach out to her beloved son. Last Thursday, the much-awaited reunion took place in the U.S. "His father said they were going on vacation and that's why he got permission to take Jonathan. It was a normal day; I thought they'd come back," Hope tearfully recalled the last moments she saw her son. Now, Jonathan speaks only Spanish and, apart from his American name, remembers nothing from the time spent with his mother. He plans to finish high school in Mexico but has promised to return to the U.S. soon to reunite with his mother and brother and to reconnect with them.
