So what does it take to capture the largest photo in the world—measuring 46 terabytes and spanning an entire football field? First, it requires elephant-like skin and endless patience, of which Filippo Blengini, the photographer who captured it, apparently has plenty. Along with a team of five assistants, the group ascended 3,500 meters in the Alps, where they took 70,000 small photos.
Why elephant-like skin? We don't want to think about how it feels to work 35 hours straight in the bone-chilling cold of the Alpine summit. The photo shows the 'Mont Blanc' mountain range in a panoramic view and was taken as part of the IN2WHITE project. To develop and assemble the small images into the massive puzzle, Blengini's team took advantage of solutions from tech companies like Canon and SanDisk, among others.
