What would you be willing to do for a friend in need? Shi Shuo from China has shown he's willing to go quite far. For the last three years, Shuo has carried his good friend Zhang Chi almost every day to ensure Chi doesn’t miss a single class at school.
Shuo and Chi both attend a boarding high school in Suzhou, northern China. Chi suffers from a muscular dystrophy condition that makes it nearly impossible for him to walk. In an area with no wheelchair access or availability, Shuo, Chi's best friend, made sure Chi's condition wouldn't prevent his learning. His solution: every morning, he carries him from the dormitory to class and back again in the afternoon. When the class moves to the lab or library, Shuo offers his help once more. He also occasionally takes him to the cafeteria and assists with laundry and meal preparation. Altogether, the boys say, Shuo carries Chi about a dozen times each day.
Both students are top performers, planning to continue their education at a higher institution after high school. "Shi is a wonderful student and has a positive influence on other students, teaching them to help Zhang," said the deputy principal in an interview with local media. "With their help, Zhang hasn’t missed a single class."
