This week, the Peretz family from Ashdod was deeply shaken. The reason: the image of the late grandmother appeared in a photo recently taken during a heritage trip to Morocco. Jacob, his older sister, his daughter Rachel, and her young son Yoel went on this trip. During one tour of the vibrant markets they visited, Rachel decided to photograph her young son in front of a stall selling kaftans (traditional Moroccan clothing).
Later that evening, as she went through the photos on her phone, she was astonished to see a woman's figure in one of the photos that wasn't there when she took it. Her curiosity was piqued, and she began zooming in on the image for a closer look.
Bit by bit, the situation became clearer, and Rachel was able to recognize the mysterious figure: it was her mother Rachel—who had passed away eight years earlier. Shocked by the revelation, she gasped, dropped the phone in fright, and ran to tell her family about the startling discovery.
Rabbis on the Deceased Grandmother: 'She Was Righteous and Worthy of Revelation'
The more the family studied the unusual picture, the more they became convinced that it was indeed the grandmother. Once the initial shock subsided, the family decided to investigate further by talking to the Muslim stall owner. They showed him the picture and asked if he recognized the woman in it. However, he firmly denied knowing her.
The family then decided to seek guidance from rabbis for an explanation of the photo. "Rabbi David Abuhatzeira from Nahariya told us that my mother had a very high soul, like that of the righteous, and that's why she was able to reveal herself. He said she was righteous and didn't need any rectification in this world," said Eli, Rachel's son.
Since then, the family has been sharing the story to elevate the soul of the grandmother, hoping to strengthen the public's faith, showing everyone that "there is a Creator and life after death," according to Peretz.
