"Chief Rabbinate: 'We've made a mistake calculating Passover'" - This headline has been circulating in WhatsApp groups and various Facebook pages recently. It involves a screenshot, allegedly from ynet Judaism channel, suggesting that "due to recent weather patterns, the Chief Rabbinate announced a miscalculation in the calendar, implying this year could be a leap year and Passover will occur once again in exactly one month. "Prepare to celebrate the holiday again," it says in the report, which has stirred concern among many.
A quick check with both the Chief Rabbinate and ynet's management confirmed it's a complete fabrication. As known, the Rabbinate doesn't "set" holidays like this; Jewish holidays are based on a traditional calendar. Additionally, a Google search reveals there was no such webpage.
A few hours after this viral prank, ynet published the following update on their news bulletin: "A false and fabricated report is circulating, stating that the Chief Rabbinate miscalculated the dates of Passover. This is a fake report that wasn’t published on ynet, it is incorrect, and its creators aim to cause public confusion."
