When Cutting Money Doesn't Create Extra Cash

Children bring joy, but they also bring surprises. Their world is full of vivid imagination and unending creativity, especially when it comes to money. Who wouldn't want to buy all the toys, clothes, or candies without hearing 'I have no money'?

This week, two adorable little girls decided to help their parents cope with financial struggles. Using their ingenuity, they discovered a unique method to increase the amount of money they found at home, totaling over 2,000 shekels: they cut the bills into numerous small pieces, believing it would create 'more money.'

When their parents found out about the unpleasant surprise, they decided to write a letter to the Bank of Israel, detailing their situation. In response, the parents were asked to send all the cut-up bills for examination, and a few days later, they received the final verdict.

It turns out that the Bank of Israel has a regulation stating: 'A damaged currency that is presented to the bank, in more than half, in one piece or several pieces, will be replaced by the bank with legal tender of equivalent value, provided it is proven to the bank's satisfaction that the pieces presented are parts of the same currency.'

According to the currency department at the Bank of Israel, although this case did not involve naturally damaged currency, after examining the bills, it was decided to replace them and credit the parents' account with the relevant amount instead of the shredded bills.
