It was just an ordinary day in a park in East London. Martin Le-May and his wife, both amateur photographers, were enjoying a leisurely stroll. But strange cries echoing from one of the trees caught their attention. Le-May quickly grabbed his binoculars and was surprised to discover that the source of the unusual sounds was a beautiful bird, whose movements suggested something was bothering it.
Le-May hurriedly activated his camera and aimed it at the stunning bird, which was just taking flight. Only then, through the camera lens, did he realize the source of the bird's discomfort: a small, mischievous weasel had climbed onto its back – seemingly less to enjoy a first flight and more to try its luck at hunting. "Eventually, the woodpecker landed on the ground and began to struggle with the weasel," recalled Le-May, adding, "Our presence there likely distracted the weasel, allowing the woodpecker to escape to safety."
