Parking woes in Japan have pushed the top tech minds at engineering firm GIKEN SEISAKUSHO to join forces for a groundbreaking solution: an automated underground parking system for bicycles.
In a brief explainer video, the Japanese engineering firm showcases their ingenious method, which shows bikes being placed in a special ‘elevator’ and transported with a giant metal arm to an available spot in a garage that holds around 204 standard-sized bike spaces.
The entire process takes about 13 seconds, and it will soon cost consumers only about $15 a month. The big question: how do you find your bike among hundreds of others? The answer is simple. With a personal card, the system links bikes to owners and identifies them on request.
