Catch of a Lifetime: Giant Fish Reeled In from the Sea of Galilee

Fishermen from Ein Gev were on a routine boat trip on the Sea of Galilee when they were stunned by their catch: a giant Amur fish, measuring 1.35 meters and weighing 30 kg—estimated to be 35 years old.

Menachem Lev, a fisherman from Ein Gev, noted that the fishermen were surprised not only by the size of the fish but also by the fact that such fish have not been seen in the Sea of Galilee for many years. Researchers from the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Agriculture at the Sea of Galilee say that the last and only time these fish were stocked in the Sea of Galilee was in 1979, and since Amur fish cannot reproduce there, this fish must be celebrating its 35th year.
