Faith, Children, and Miracles: Trusting God Through Life’s Hardest Tests
A journey of faith, parenting struggles, and answered prayers that reveal how divine trust can transform challenges into joy

To be blessed with children is a free gift from God, and raising them is one of life’s greatest tests. A man once came to me with a heavy heart. “What should I do?” he asked. “God has blessed me with three healthy sons, but recently all three were diagnosed with attention and concentration disorders. Almost every day, one of them is sent home from school because of discipline problems.”
I answered him with a question: “Do you know there is a Creator of the world?”
He said, “Of course.”
I asked again: “Do you know that He Himself decided your children would have certain challenges?”
He said, “Yes.”
I continued: “Do you know that He can change it all for the better in an instant — He could literally reshape their brains?”
He answered, “Yes.”
So I told him: “If you know that only He can help, don’t despair. Turn to Him, pray to Him, plead with Him. You’ve already done half the work.”
Faith and the Test of Relationships
Finding a partner is complicated by many factors, including appearance, education, finances, family background, character, and more. Each man and woman has their own list of what they seek, and even when someone finds what they desire, it still requires agreement from the other party.
In youth, this seems easy, but after years of searching, disappointments, and refusals, doubts creep in: “Maybe I don’t deserve to marry at all? Maybe the partner I want doesn’t even exist?” These thoughts are natural, but the answer remains the same: there is a Creator of the world. Everything is in His hands. There is no woman for whom He cannot provide the husband she seeks, and no man for whom He cannot provide the wife he hopes for. The prophet Chavakuk said it clearly: “The righteous shall live by his faith.”
A Father’s Joy and a Child’s Trust
A loving father is delighted when his precious child thinks of him constantly, and turns to him in every difficulty, as this shows him that his child truly trusts him. So too, God wants us to think of Him in every moment. As King David said: “I have set the Lord before me always.”
Faith itself is a commandment in the Torah, and when we learn to see God as the true solution to every problem, that very thought alone becomes the key for Him to save us from our troubles.
A Personal Story: Twins and a Miracle
During a routine exam when my wife and I were expecting twins, the doctor told us that one of the babies had a severe heart defect and “no chance of survival.” He referred us for further testing. At the hospital, two world-renowned professors reviewed the scans and declared with certainty: “This fetus cannot live more than five minutes outside the womb.” Their conclusion was that we should terminate the pregnancy.
We left devastated, shaken in our faith, but I turned to the book Chovot HaLevavot (Duties of the Heart), to the Gate of Trust, and its words were like cold water to a weary soul. Slowly I understood: there is a Creator who holds the soul of every living being, who gives life at will, and who can heal in an instant. I realized my main task was not to rely on doctors alone, but to pray, give charity, reflect deeply on my own deeds, and improve myself. We asked rabbis and spiritual leaders to pray for us, and we searched our hearts for what we needed to correct. Month after month we held on to faith, and did not follow the advice to enter the high-risk clinic for more invasive tests.
Finally, the date was set for a C-section. The hospital arranged for a cardiac surgery team to be ready for immediate intervention. As I stood outside the operating room reciting Tehillim, a nurse came out holding a baby girl. “Mazel tov!” she said. “A healthy daughter.” My heart leapt, but my mind was still on the second baby.
Minutes later another nurse emerged with the second baby girl. “Mazel tov! Another daughter.” I stood frozen. Why weren’t they rushing her to heart surgery? I was told that she was breathing on her own, and surgery was not needed. Tears ran down my face as I held her. One thought filled my mind: Thank You, God, for hearing our prayers and not abandoning us even in such painful moments. Thank You.
Strengthening Others Through Experience
In recent years, many expectant mothers have come to me, asking for prayers when doctors warned of severe risks such as Down syndrome, serious defects, and more. I told them the story of my daughter, and reminded them that nothing prevents God from healing in an instant.
Thank God, in every case where the parents rejected the recommendation of abortion, they gave birth to healthy, happy children.
There is no greater strengthening of faith than witnessing God’s salvation with your own eyes. To be blessed with children is the greatest gift, and even in struggles — whether in raising them, finding a partner, or facing frightening medical diagnoses, faith and trust in God can turn despair into miracles.
